JACKSONVILLE — Rockledge High flirted with a state track and field championship on Saturday, but after a drop to third, the girls 4x400-meter relay delivered for a team runner-up finish.

The relay of Kaira Simmons, Danielle Phillips, Jayla Reeves and Terra Edwards turned in a fifth-place time of 4:00.95, one spot better than they needed to pass Pine Crest for second at the Class 2A state track and field meet. The Raiders’ total of 39 was well back of team champion Plantation American Heritage’s 87, but it beat out No. 3 Pine Crest (37).
