Five Questions for Symone Mason
Symone Mason, a junior out of Robert Morgan Senior High School and a member of the Southridge High track & field team, has been in the spotlight since middle school and has become a multi-talented athlete. She dominates the track in many events and has drawn comparisons to the great Olympian, Sanya Richards-Ross.
Here are her Highlights: On Saturday, October 10,2015 Symone Mason,a was awarded the 2015 USATF - Florida Association female athlete of the year. Symone was the sole Team USA Florida representative at the 9th IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championship 2015 held in Cali, Colombia. Symone finished 8th overall with a time 53.55 in the 400 meters. Symone qualified for the USA's World Youth Team in the 400 meters after besting a time of 52.80 to win the USA World youth Track and Field Championship. In addition, she has also run the 100 meters in 11.65, 200 meters in 23.37.
DyeStat reached out to Symone and asker her five questions on the eve of the Florida state meet.
1. How has this year been as the regular season is about to end and we are approaching the state meet?
Symone - “This year has been mediocre . Haven't really hit the times I had in mind but I know I'll hit them soon; just have to be patient. Other than that, the season flew by! Can't believe it's almost done.” 2. What are some of your goals you have for the State Meet?
Symone - “My goals are to come out on top in all of my events, to win states as a team, and to break Sanya Richards-Ross' 400m record.” 3. Last year you had a great track season, so going in to the postseason what are the meets you are looking towards to attend?
Symone - “I look forward to attending the Carribbean Scholastic Invitational later this month in Cuba . I'm also attending the World Junior trials and will hopefully advance to the championships in Poland.”
4) Have you done anything different with your training than you did in 2015?
Symone - “My base training this year was different but other than that, not really.” 5) What's your favorite event and why?
Symone - “My favorite event is the 4x400 because it's such an exciting race to watch as well as run.” Here is some additional content with Symone Mason :
