FPC has records in sights

PALM COAST -- The Flagler Palm Coast 4x400 boys relay team has a chance Saturday to put itself among some elite company -- not just statewide, but nationally.

Seniors Reggie Woods, Tim O'Dell, Ashdon Mills and C.J. Lockhart are unbeaten and own the country's second-fastest time this season, 3 minutes and 13.15 seconds.

In Saturday night's Class 4A state track and field meet in Winter Park, some feel the fastest time in the country this year -- and maybe the state's all-time mark -- are within the Bulldogs' reach.

Add in that the 4x400 is the final event of the night and could decide the state team title, and Saturday night has all the makings of one of the greatest days in FPC sports history.

"If it came down to first place for the whole (meet) to overtake whoever, I would bet on these guys," FPC coach Dave Halliday said. "The last couple of weeks we've been kind of treading water, trying to get to the big show. Now we can put all of our eggs in."

At the Bob Hayes Invitational on March 21, FPC beat Miami Northwestern by 3.51 seconds. Since then, no one had gotten within 5 seconds of the Bulldogs until last week's regional meet.
