Five Questions for Anthony Schwartz Heading Into Florida State MeetPublished by
Q&A With Anthony Schwartz of American Heritage FL By Ka’Deem Wynn for DyeStat The Florida state championships arrive this weekend. Anthony Schwartz of American Heritage High has established himself as the fastest prep sprinter in the country this spring with a wind-legal best of 10.13 seconds at last week's 2A Region 4 meet. He also leads the nation in the 200 at 20.47 seconds. At his first indoor meet, New Balance Nationals Indoor in March, he ran 6.59 seconds for one of the fastest 60s in high school history. Last year, Schwartz's near-perfect season was undone by an injury that slowed him to eighth place in both the 100 and 200 at the Florida state meet. Now, back and running faster than ever, Schwartz looks to go out with a bang and finish what he started. The Auburn signee recently paused to answer a few questions for DyeStat. DyeStat: How do you feel about your season up to this point? Anthony Schwartz: The season has been very successful right now. DyeStat: After the adidas Boost Boston Games last year you said you were aiming for 10.1 to 10.0 in 2018. You’re currently at 10.13. What’s this last year been like physically and mentally, especially considering that last outdoor season you were injured a bit? Anthony Schwartz: Physically it’s just understanding my body and how I know when it doesn’t feel right, and mentally I just know what I want, but I’m starting to clear my mind because I feel like if I just run to win I’ll end up running faster than when I put a certain time in my head. DyeStat: You signed with Auburn. Do you think you can play both football and run track and not eventually have to pick one over the other? Anthony Schwartz: I love both of them and right now I think I can succeed in both. DyeStat: What is your goal this season? Anthony Schwartz: Right now I’m just trying to win states. DyeStat: You’re fourth on Florida’s all-time list in the 100 behind Trayvon Bromell, Jeffery Demps and Marvin Bracy. What legacy or mark do you want to leave when your senior season is done? Anthony Schwartz: I want to be number one on the list and hopefully have the same if not more accomplishments after high school. More news |
